SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Intro Workshop - Spring 2026
DESCRIPTION:Centering Prayer Intro Workshops \n\n\n\nWinter Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop\n\n\n\n\nGathering starts on Saturday at 8:30am\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAre you looking for a way to explore or deepen your relationship with God?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCentering Prayer opens one to God’s infinite love and power to heal wounds of a lifetime. While opening the door to other related prayer practices around forgiveness and dealing with painful situations and emotions. This workshop is a sampling of the practice and its benefits. Please join us as a beginner or if you would like a refresher. It is a personal prayer and is often practiced in groups. Enjoy the prayer support of others in community. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat Is Centering Prayer? \n\n\n\nCentering Prayer is based on a Christian contemplative practice first described in The Cloud of Unknowing\, written in the latter half of the 14th century.  \n\n\n\n\n“Centering Prayer is not so much an exercise of attention as intention. It may take a while to grasp this distinction. You do not attend to any particular thought or content. Rather\, you intend to go to your inmost being\, where you believe God dwells. You are opening to Him by pure faith\, not by means of concepts or feelings.” \n\n\n\n— Thomas Keating\, Open Mind Open Heart\, p. 39 \n\n\n\n\nThis prayer does not replace your other prayer practices. You will be given encouragement to learn how to become more comfortable with building a deeper relationship with the God of your understanding in the stillness of your “inner room.” \n\n\n\n\n“If you want to pray\, enter your inner room\, close the door\, and pray to your Father in secret\, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.“ \n\n\n\n —Matthew 6:6 \n\n\n\n\nWhat is the inner room? This “inner room” is not a physical place. It is an interior place in our hearts\, the deepest part of who we are. It is a place of quiet\, where we can meet our Lord personally.  \n\n\n\nIntroduction to Centering Prayer is a sampling of the practice and its benefits. The workshop is a prerequisite to the Follow Up Course\, Basic Centering Prayer\, that delves more into the practice and effects of Centering Prayer. Basic Centering Prayer is the next step to a committed practice with community support and trained Presenters and Facilitators. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn our introductory workshop to Centering Prayer\, you will discover a centuries-old prayer method.  Centering Prayer consists of simply sitting in silence with God – beyond thoughts\, words\, and emotions – and opening our mind\, heart and whole being to the Ultimate Mystery. In this workshop\, you will learn the basics of Centering Prayer\, experience it in a guided setting\, and be able to ask questions and share experiences with the presenters and your fellow participants. Please join us!COL Commissioned Presenters will be serving Centering Prayer Introductory Workshop. Both have been practicing centering prayer for many years. Charlie Lawrence\, Commissioned Presenter and Team leader is also supporting the Team and Workshop Preparations. Please bring a lunch. If you would like to share a dish\, that would be most welcome. We will provide snacks\, coffee\, tea\, and water\, and you are also encouraged to bring a beverage of your choice (with a lid). For more information contact: Charlie Lawrence charlesn.lawrence2@gmail.com(618) 781 4538 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGather at 8:30 am\, Intro Workshop – 9:00 am to 2:30pmIntroductory workshops are held throughout the year at a variety of sites. The presenters are specially trained and commissioned in teaching this short course which covers the essentials of the method and conceptual background of Centering Prayer. It was suggested to combine centering prayer with an activity such as yoga or art.  It was agreed upon that contemplative prayer may enhance and be enhanced by any activity that lends itself to a stillness in mind and heart\, a joy within\, and being truly present in each moment. The divine dwelling within can be communed with while hiking beneath the trees\, free flowing with a favorite melody\, exploring and creating in a favorite artistic medium\, within the deep breath taken while settling into a yoga pose\, energy breath work\, or while listening to the draw of classical piano music. These are just some avenues to become more comfortable with simply being. It is the Soul Trekkers intent to investigate the many branches of the Tree of Contemplative Practices combined with guided Centering Prayer meditation sessions to inspire exploration\, joy\, and connection in a fellowship of contemplative travelers.  While centering prayer guidelines will be offered\, any and all meditation disciplines are welcome. The goal is to embrace stillness and foster a relationship with the God within each of us and our true authentic selves. Come share in the beautiful intimacy that stillness in community has to offer.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImage by Carrie Bergman \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n For any questions please email: cpsoultrekkers@gmail.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration:\n\n\n\nCOST: $65.00 dollarsRegistration includes flower materials\, vase container\, plastic kenzan and other supplies. This fee is non-refundable. \n\n\n\n \n\n CompanyThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Address(Required) \n \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n City\n \n \n State / Province / Region\n \n \n ZIP / Postal Code\n \n \n Phone(Required)Please briefly share your contemplative prayer background(Required)If you are bringing guests\, please list their names below. SUMMARY:The Seven Mansions of the Interior Castle of Teresa of Avila
DESCRIPTION:Mystic Journey Series \n\n\n\nThe Seven Mansions of the Interior Castle of Teresa of Avila\n\n\n\nPresented by Susan Komis\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGathering at 9:00 AM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContemplative Outreach “Mystic Journey Series” invite you to a time of exploration.\n\n\n\nOn Saturday\, March 21st\, Susan Komis will offer her presentation entitled “The Seven Mansions of the Interior Castle of Teresa of Avila.” Teresa\, an engaging story-teller\, invites us Into her life with God by entering the Castle where the “soul” is the hero/heroine of the story.  The soul begins a wonderful\, at times harrowing\, journey through the Castle. Author Joyce Rupp exclaims …”the full person God created us to be contains more than we can imagine\, but most of us dwell within a small portion of the superb castle within ourself.” The Mansions of Teresa’s Interior Castle speak to the uncompromising love that our God has for the human person…\n\n\n\nWhat is a Mystic?  Who is a Mystic? – Exploring the lives and stories of the mystics.\n\n\n\nYou are invited to join us to consider the life and stories of persons who have revealed and written of their experience encountering the extraordinary presence and love of the Divine Reality.\n\n\n\nEach scheduled Saturday\, we will welcome presenters who have been invited to choose a person of their choice who may be considered as a “mystic.” The presenter will offer the story of that mystic’s life and spiritual journey which fostered an extraordinary relationship with God.\n\n\n\nOur life is often touched as we journey into the story of the mystic.  We become more aware that we\, too\, are being mystically formed by the Divine Presence within. The mystics and their life story often become our teachers.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n9:00 am – Gathering\n\n\n\n9:30 am – Centering Prayer. Her primary role supported the leadership of Contemplative Outreach chapters by developing and offering formations\, retreats\, spiritual enrichment and organizational support until she retired in 2017. \n\n\n\nAlthough retired\, Susan occasionally offers presentations on themes related to contemplative spirituality.  As a Pastoral Minister\, she has served as a spiritual director\, active in adult faith development and interspiritual dialogue.  Her primary role currently is engaging family; Susan is married\, mother of 4 adults daughters and blessed with a host of grandchildren! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA little history on the formation of the Mystic Journey Series\n\n\n\n\n\nTHE MYSTIC JOURNEY\n\n\n\nThere are many definitions of the word “mystic” as noted in religious traditions throughout the world.  Most traditions agree that the Mystic is a person who seeks through contemplation\, self-surrender and personal transformation the experience of unity with the sacred Absolute Divine reality.Karl Rahner\, in his famous quote regarding the spiritual journey of the future\, said “you will be a mystic or nothing at all …”Everyone is invited to join us to consider the life and stories of persons who have revealed and written of their experience encountering the extraordinary presence and love of Divine reality. Some may call them “saints” or apply other characterizations\, but they were no different than you or I who are seeking the same loving God.Contemplative Outreach of St. Louis anticipate hosting three (3) Saturday presentations this year on March 21st\, June 20th and September 19th featuring presenters who will offer insights on the life of three renowned mystics relating the contemplative dimension of the life and legacy of the seeker who found God.  The teachings of these mystics strive to deepen our understanding of our own search for the Divine in light of the human condition. \n\n\n\nJune 20th – Frank Krebs will be our featured presenter. \n\n\n\nMore details will follow in the upcoming COSTL newsletter.  We encourage you to register early to attend these presentations .. you won’t want to miss it! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information: Susan Komis – susankomis@icloud.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration:\n\n\n\n \n\n CommentsThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Address(Required) \n \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n City\n \n \n State / Province / Region\n \n \n ZIP / Postal Code\n \n \n Phone(Required)Please briefly share your contemplative prayer background(Required)If you are bringing guests\, please list their names below. SUMMARY:Forest Bathing Walk
DESCRIPTION:Soul Trekkers \n\n\n\nForest Bathing Walk in Jefferson Barracks Park\n\n\n\n A Meditative Walk Through the Woods\n\n\n\nPresented by Colleen Baum\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContemplative Outreach “Soul Trekkers” invite you on a meditative walk through the woods.\n\n\n\n“Wild places draw us out of ourselves and into deeper awareness.” \n\n\n\n— Belden C. Lane \n\n\n\n🌿 Soul Trekkers Nature Walk — Jefferson Barracks Park – Black Hawk Shelter – Meet in Parking AreaJoin us for a gentle contemplative walk through the wooded areas of Jefferson Barracks Park. Together we will slow down\, listen deeply to the rhythms of nature\, and allow the beauty of the trees\, sky\, and changing season to invite us into quiet awareness of God’s presence.\n\n\n\nWe will be walking along uneven forest floor paths\, so sturdy shoes are recommended. Our pace will be slow and attentive\, allowing time to notice the quiet beauty and subtle movements of the natural world. These walks offer a simple space for silence\, reflection\, and shared presence as we explore the natural world with attentive hearts.Colleen Baum will serve as our Nature Guide\, sharing her wisdom as an ISA Certified Arborist with more than 20 years of experience and owner of Droege Tree Care in St. Louis. This marks the third year Colleen has led our Soul Trekkers walks\, and she is deeply respected for the knowledge and insight she brings — helping us notice the beauty of the woods and listen to what creation quietly conveys to us.Colleen will also offer reflections along the way\, while honoring our shared silence and contemplative experience. \n\n\n\nWhile also listening to the wisdom of the forest in stillness\, we will have the opportunity to be guided and participate in a centering prayer meditation (or meditation of your choice). \n\n\n\nAll are welcome — whether you come for silence\, reflection\, or simply the joy of walking together in nature. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJust as We…the Trees…\n\n\n\nRespond to trauma \n\n\n\nChange as we do as needed\n\n\n\nLet go when they are powerless\n\n\n\nSet boundaries after wounding \n\n\n\nTurn toward their inner-selves to quiet\n\n\n\nLive and Let Live with love\n\n\n\nMay the Forest Be with Us\n\n\n\n\n12:30 PM — Gathering\, welcome\, and introduction by Colleen Baum1:00 PM — Walk begins promptly3:00 PM — Walk concludes\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\n📍New Shelter Location  (as of March 8th)Jefferson Barracks Park — Black Hawk Shelter – Parking Area\n\n\n\nEnter Jefferson Barracks Park from Telegraph Road. Come share in the beautiful intimacy that stillness in community has to offer.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImage by Carrie Bergman\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“As we walk together\, we allow the landscape itself to guide our attention and deepen our listening. \n\n\n\n\n…The place itself becomes the teacher.” \n\n\n\n\n— Belden C. SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Intro Workshop - Winter 2026
Please join us!Charlie Lawrence and Susie Brent will be serving as our COL Commissioned Co Presenters of this Centering Prayer Introductory Workshop. Both have been practicing centering prayer for many years. Charlie Lawrence\, Commissioned Presenter and Team leader is also supporting the Team and Workshop Preparations. Please bring a lunch. If you would like to share a dish\, that would be most welcome. We will provide coffee\, tea\, and water\, and you are also encouraged to bring a beverage of your choice (with a lid). For more information contact: Charlie Lawrence charlesn.lawrence2@gmail.com(618) 781 4538 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGather at 8:30 am\, Intro Workshop – 9:00 am to 2:00pmIntroductory workshops are held throughout the year at a variety of sites. SUMMARY:The Mandala Journey
DESCRIPTION:Soul Trekkers \n\n\n\nThe Mandala Journey\n\n\n\nA Meditative Drawing Workshop\n\n\n\nPresented by Heather Fricke\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGathering at 9:30amSnacks\, coffee and tea will be available.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContemplative Outreach “Soul Trekkers” invite you to a time of creative expression and Centering Prayer\n\n\n\nA mandala is more than a design—it’s a spiritual map\, a sacred mirror\, and a pathway to the divine. Whether drawn\, visualized\, or meditated upon\, mandalas invite us to explore the infinite within and around us.Mandalas are ancient\, symbolic designs rooted in spirituality\, healing\, and cosmic order. From sacred diagrams in Indian and Tibetan religions to modern psychological tools\, mandalas have evolved while preserving their core message: wholeness\, unity\, and the journey inward.Across cultures and traditions\, mandalas serve as symbolic representations of the universe\, the self\, and the path to spiritual awakening.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The patterns we create become mirrors for the soul. A mandala shows us the shape of our own inner wholeness.” \n\n\n\n – Richard Rohr \n\n\n\n\nFlow of Event:\n\n\n\n\n20 min: Intro & brief history of mandala\n\n\n\n45 min: Drawing \n\n\n\n10 min: Short break\n\n\n\n30 min: Centering Prayer\n\n\n\n\nGraph paper and colored markers are provided. Guided by her playful inner child\, she is always exploring new ways to build\, create\, and express herself through art. Her current passions include painting\, drawing\, sculpting\, and jewelry-making — each offering its own rhythm of discovery and joy. Deeply inspired by nature\, the mindfulness of yoga\, and her love for animals\, Heather’s work reflects a connection to the simple\, soulful beauty that surrounds us all. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA little history on the formation of the Soul Trekkers\n\n\n\n\n\nIn 2022 following a 7 day silent retreat in Snowmass\, CO at St. Benedict’s Monastery\, Jennifer Beeman\, Heather Fricke and Susie Brent gathered with Jenny Adamson and Pat Johnson to discuss potential avenues for sharing the methods of centering prayer with the next generation. Come share in the beautiful intimacy that stillness in community has to offer.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n For any questions please email: cpsoultrekkers@gmail.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration:\n\n\n\n \n\n X/TwitterThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Phone(Required)Address(Required) \n \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n City\n \n \n State / Province / Region\n \n \n ZIP / Postal Code\n \n \n Background(Required)Please briefly share your contemplative prayer backgroundGuestsIf you are bringing guests\, please list their names below.
