Back to Basics is a gathering for anyone who would like a little "shot in the arm" for their Centering Prayer practice and for anyone who simply loves the prayer. Whether you are new to the practice, returning after some time away, or have been practicing for years, you are welcome.
When Thomas Keating was a young college student at Yale University, spending most of his time in the library consumed with the study of early church teachings on contemplation, all the while neglecting his academic studies, he came to understand that the Christian path is an invitation to transformation.
This day invites us to deepen our understanding of the Western apophatic tradition and explore how its wisdom can be lived in our modern world.
Together, we will consider how these ancient teachings can illuminate the contemplative journey today — helping us navigate the questions, struggles and transformations that can arise as mystical consciousness deepens.
Welcoming Prayer is a contemplative practice of consenting to God’s presence and action in the midst of everyday life. It complements Centering Prayer by helping us bring the same attitude of consent that we practice in silence into the circumstances, emotions, relationships, and challenges of daily living.
