EnLIGHTenment Series:  The Deserts Roots of Contemplative Prayer: Emptiness, Silence & Hiddenness of Self presented by Belden C. Lane Ph.D. — Wednesday, September 25, 2024, 5:30pm – 8:30pm

Using slides and stories, Belden C. Lane Ph.D. will talk about the significance of desert geography in the life of the early Desert Fathers and Mothers. Putting a priority on silence and scarcity, they taught contemplative prayer by means of short sayings and stories, giving rise to what we know as the Jesus Prayer.

The Wounded Healer archetype is a concept coined by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung. It suggests that healers, often those who have experienced trauma themselves, possess unique curative power for others.

Acknowledging there is a Wounded Healer in all of us, we will review contemplative teachings that explore the concept of trauma healing and spiritual wholeness.
