Journey Into Stillness
Centering Prayer Intro Workshop Follow Up
September 6 at 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM
Gathering starts at 8:30am

Jesus said to them, ”Come away with me. Let us go alone to a quiet place and rest for a while”.
Mark 6:31
After experiencing the Introductory Workshop on Centering Prayer, many people feel called to continue exploring this simple yet profound way of prayer. Journey into Stillness is designed to support that next step.
You are invited to experience support for this contemplative journey with others.
“Centering Prayer is a way of consenting to God’s presence and action within.”
— Basil Pennington, ocso
This morning of prayer and reflection will be facilitated by Peggy Austermann, Charlie Lawrence and Walter Martinez, both Commissioned Presenters with Contemplative Outreach. Together we will:
- Review the method of Centering Prayer with fresh guidance.
- Enter into a period of group Centering Prayer in silence.
- Reflect on the spiritual fruits of the practice in daily life.
- Share in optional small group conversation about our experiences.
- Discover ways to stay connected through local prayer groups, resources, and community support.
Whether you are brand new to Centering Prayer or seeking to deepen a practice you’ve already begun, this gathering offers a welcoming space to rest in God’s presence and grow in the contemplative dimension of the Gospel.
Please bring a notebook. It is recommended to bring your book Open Mind, Open Heart, by Father Thomas Keating if you have one. This is a beginner book with questions and answers specifically about the centering prayer practice and the spiritual journey. It is a great companion for the journey.
“Centering Prayer is a discipline to foster interior transformation, initiated by God and leading, if we consent, to divine union. One’s way of seeing reality changes, which empowers one to perceive and respond to everyday life with sensitivity to the divine presence in, through and beyond everything.”
—Thomas Keating, Open Mind, Open Heart
